Bringing in the New Year Southern Style!
As I sit here in the midst of the chaos of my home, I am still optimistic that the new year will bring a sense of order and continued blessings upon me, my family and my friends. Even though I have a million things to do today, I am making it a priority to bring in the new year, southern style.
Meaning:
I am doing laundry, cause Lord knows, you wash clothes on New Years Day, you are begging for Bad Luck!
I am about to start a big 'ol pot of black eyes peas, to simmer for hours, basking in nothing less than unhealthy, greasy, but oh so yummy fat back.
Hubby is gonna get me some collard greens, but he is a bit busy today with work, but that's ok, I have some collards on reserve my Nannie (aka grandmama) sent over....
All this to keep up with the southern superstition that this will bring health and prosperity to me and my family.....
I reckon I am a southern woman, through and through, bless my southern heart. Hubby calls me his little redneck, as I go barefoot 95% of the time, and the last two years I was both barefoot and pregnant....
What can I say? My southern roots run deep, and I am damn proud!

2 BackSeat Drivers:
I washed all of our clothes today, decluttered, dusted and made sure that all bedrooms were spotless. DH even vacuumed for me. Out with the old and in with the new!!
Here's to health, happiness, and prosperity for us all! :-)
After reading your post on waxing I had to comment. I've done the same thing. My mother left the razor out when I was little and I shaved my arms. SInce then I have gorilla hair on them. A few years ago I thought waxing them would be a fine solution; after taking off a layer of skin and of course all the hair I now know that when my skin is burned off my arms resemble that of a raw chicken breast.
